Bio Bike

An organic bike is a term used to distinguish it from an e-bike. It refers to a traditional bicycle without an electric motor — i.e., a bicycle that is propelled purely by muscle power. The term "organic" is intended to indicate natural, unadulterated locomotion, similar to "organic food," where "organic" stands for naturalness.

Features of a Bio Bike

  • No motor, no battery

  • Driven by muscle power

  • Often lighter than an e-bike

  • Lower maintenance (no battery, no electronics)

  • Cheaper to purchase

  • Environmentally friendly, as no electricity consumption

Why the term “Bio Bike”?

The term has become established primarily due to the increasing popularity of e-bikes. To linguistically distinguish traditional bicycles from their motorized counterparts, some bicycle enthusiasts, dealers, and communities use the term "bio bike." It is not (yet) very common in everyday language – one more often hears simply "normal bike" or "classic bike."

A bio bike is simply a conventional bicycle without a motor. The term emphasizes the naturalness of cycling – in contrast to the technical assistance approach of e-bikes.
