A truing stand in the context of bicycles is a special device or fixture used by bicycle mechanics to ensure that the wheels of a bicycle are correctly centered. Truing bicycle wheels is important to ensure that they rotate smoothly, have no side-to-side runout, and provide the best performance characteristics.
A typical truing stand consists of two brackets on which the hubs of the wheels are placed. By rotating the wheels, mechanics can identify irregularities in the wheel position. Adjustment screws or other mechanisms then allow them to adjust the spoke length to bring the wheel back to center.
Using a truing stand is especially important when installing new wheels, replacing spokes, or making repairs after a fall or accident. A precisely centered wheel helps minimize vibration, extend component life, and improve bike performance.
