The Dunlop valve , also known as a Blitz valve , is a true classic and particularly widespread in Europe. It is frequently used on traditional bicycles, city bikes, and older models.
The Dunlop valve is named after the British inventor John Boyd Dunlop. He is best known for developing the pneumatic tire – an innovation that revolutionized cycling comfort. Although the valve itself has undergone technical improvements, it has remained closely associated with his name.
The Dunlop valve works with a simple rubber tube or insert inside that holds the air pressure. To inflate, the valve cap is unscrewed – there is no valve pin like on a Schrader valve.
Very simple design: Easy to maintain and inexpensive
Fast inflation: Less resistance when pumping
Widely used: Especially in Germany, standard on many bicycles
Lower pressure stability: Air can escape more quickly.
Less precise pressure measurement: Exact PSI/bar values are harder to determine.
Not suitable for high pressures
The Dunlop valve is commonly found in:
City bikes
Dutch bikes
The Dunlop valve impresses with its simplicity and tradition . It is perfectly adequate for everyday use in the city – especially for drivers who prefer a straightforward solution.

Everyone knows the classic bike lock moment: you get off your bike, rummage in your backpack, click the heavy-duty lock open, and hope it holds. But with rising e-bike prices, smart technology, and increasingly professional theft, security has also evolved. Alongside mechanical locks, a new generation of protection systems is establishing itself: electronic anti-theft devices – the invisible chain .
Fat bikes are polarizing: Hardly any other bicycle divides opinions as much as models with wide tires. Critics often cite rolling resistance, weight, or aerodynamics, deeming fat bikes inefficient. But a closer look quickly reveals that fat bikes are not just show bikes, but versatile, high-performance all-rounders.
