What is a bicycle expander?

The expander is typically used in steerer tubes made of carbon fiber or thin-walled aluminum tubes where conventional clamps or threaded systems are not recommended due to the material properties.
Advantages and disadvantages of an expander

- Even pressure distribution: The expander enables even pressure distribution in the head tube, which minimizes the risk of cracks or deformation in the fork tube.

Disadvantages

- Not suitable for all forks: Not all forks are suitable for the use of an expander. Some forks may be damaged by the pressure of the expander.
- Cost: The cost of a high-quality expander and any tools required can be higher than traditional clamping systems.
Retrofit expander
Retrofitting an expander on a bicycle requires certain steps:
