Quick release

A toggle clamp is a mechanism or tool used to fasten or loosen components quickly and easily without the need for tools such as wrenches or screwdrivers. In different contexts, toggle clamps can have different shapes and functions.

A quick release (also called a quick release lever or quick release device) is a special mechanism often used on bicycles to allow wheels to be attached and released quickly and easily without the need for additional tools. It usually consists of an eccentric axle and a lever.

Here's how a bike quick release typically works:

  1. Axle : The quick release replaces the traditional bicycle axle. Instead of a fixed axle, an eccentric axle is used that rotates when the lever is tightened.

  2. Lever : The lever is attached to the eccentric part of the axle. Turning the lever tightens or loosens the axle.

  3. Assembly and disassembly : To assemble the wheel, the lever is opened, which loosens the axle. The wheel can then be easily inserted. By closing the lever, the eccentric axle rotates and tightens, securely attaching the wheel to the bike frame.

The use of quick releases makes it easier to remove wheels quickly, for example for repairs or to transport the bike. It is important to ensure that the quick release is tightened correctly to ensure safe riding. Quick releases are often used on the front and rear wheels of bicycles, especially road bikes, mountain bikes and other types of bicycles.
