Imagine this: You're out on a fantastic e-bike tour. The sun is shining, the forest path stretches out before you – but suddenly the battery indicator flashes red. Only 10% capacity left. Panic sets in: "Will I even make it home?"

Many e-bike riders are familiar with this situation. The so-called range anxiety describes precisely this feeling: the worry of being stranded with an empty battery. While with a car it's often about finding the next gas station, with an e-bike the question is: How strenuous will the ride be without the motor?
The good news: With a few tricks, the problem can be mitigated – and with the right e-bike, it can even be permanently avoided.

Even with perfect planning, it can happen: your battery is dead, and you're still several kilometers from your destination. What now?
Downshifting
Immediately shift into the lowest gear. This makes it easier to move the bike even without motor assistance, especially on inclines.
Finding a rhythm
Try to pedal evenly. A smooth pedal stroke saves energy and prevents you from exhausting yourself too quickly.
Adjust route
Check your route: Is there a shortcut or a paved road that uses less energy? Train stations or bus connections can also be helpful in an emergency.
take a break
If you're completely exhausted, you'll ride poorly. A quick snack or some water will give you the energy to cover the last few kilometers.
External solutions
Some e-bikes allow charging via power banks or range extenders. If you take a break while riding, even half an hour of charging can be crucial.
Even better, of course, is if it doesn't get to that point in the first place. A few simple strategies can effectively prevent reach anxiety.
Apps like Komoot, Strava, or the manufacturer's own on-board computers not only show the route but also the approximate battery consumption. Knowing the elevation gain allows for a more realistic estimate of energy requirements.
Eco mode often doubles the range. Only use the higher support levels when absolutely necessary – for example, on long inclines or in strong headwinds.
A well-maintained battery lasts longer. Don't store it permanently fully charged or discharged, recharge it regularly, and avoid extreme temperatures. This will help maintain its capacity for a long time.
For frequent drivers, a second battery or a range extender is worthwhile. This provides added safety, especially on long tours or weekend trips.
Now comes the exciting part: Why are SUV e-bikes and all-terrain bikes (ATBs) the perfect choice to combat range anxiety?
SUV and ATB e-bikes are often equipped with powerful batteries , frequently 625 Wh, 750 Wh or even more. Some models offer dual battery systems – making long tours or commutes no problem.
Anyone who's ever ridden a standard city e-bike without motor assistance knows: it can be a real ordeal. SUV and ATB e-bikes score points here with their wide tires, ergonomic riding position, and robust frames. Even without the battery, they're significantly easier to ride than a regular city bike.
Whether asphalt, forest path or gravel: an SUV or ATB e-bike is a true all-rounder. Anyone who needs to spontaneously change their route is flexible with such bikes – without constantly staring at the battery indicator.
Many SUV e-bikes come fully equipped: integrated lights, mudguards, luggage racks, and often even suspension seatposts. This not only provides greater comfort but also safety – especially when riding home late at night with a low battery.
Nature and leisure cyclists : No more uneasy feeling when the tour runs longer than planned. With SUV and ATB e-bikes, there's enough range to make spontaneous detours into the woods.
Mountain bikers : Long climbs are very energy-intensive – for both rider and battery. SUV and ATB e-bikes with large batteries can handle more elevation gain and provide added safety, even on longer trails.
Amateur athletes : Those who combine training and e-biking can push themselves to the limit without worry. Even if the battery runs out, training can continue with an ATB (All Terrain Bike), as these bikes are efficient even without motor assistance.
Commuters : Nobody wants to arrive at the office sweaty and with a dead battery. SUV e-bikes with a long range make commuting reliable – even if you couldn't charge along the route.
Weekend riders : Spontaneous trips into the countryside are more relaxed with SUV e-bikes. The large battery provides more freedom and less planning stress.
Range anxiety is one of the biggest concerns for e-bike riders. But with a little planning, the right tips, and above all, choosing the right bike, the problem can be easily solved.
SUV and ATB e-bikes are the best answer to the fear of an empty battery : long range, high riding comfort, flexibility and safety make them the ideal companion – whether for the daily commute, training or the next adventure at the weekend.
👉 If you're tired of constantly checking the battery indicator, you should take a closer look at the new SUV and all-terrain e-bikes. They put an end to that anxiety and ensure you stay relaxed on the road.
