A kick lock is an integrated locking system on certain e-bikes that combines mechanical and electronic security features. It allows the bike to be locked by simply pushing a lever or button on the rear wheel.
The kick lock is a system attached to the bicycle frame that typically locks the rear wheel and simultaneously deactivates the motor. It is primarily found on e-bikes with a high level of system integration.
Locking is achieved by a mechanical impulse—usually a kick with the foot on an integrated locking mechanism. Typically, this involves:
the rear wheel is mechanically blocked,
an electronic immobilizer is activated (e.g. by deactivating the engine),
An acoustic alarm can optionally be activated.
Unlocking can be done via a smartphone (via app or Bluetooth), via a keypad on the bike, or automatically when approaching with an authorized device.
Integrated system: Part of the frame and usually connected to the digital control of the e-bike.
User-friendly: No separate lock required, easy to operate by foot pedal.
Anti-theft protection: Combination of physical blocking and electronic security; often coupled with alarm and tracking functions.
A kick lock is not a replacement for a full-fledged bicycle lock and does not offer protection against carrying the bike. Therefore, in areas with a high risk of theft, a conventional lock is recommended in addition.
Kick locks are mainly found on e-bikes with highly integrated systems and urban use.
