Ohm's Law

Ohm's law is a fundamental law of electrical engineering. It describes the relationship between voltage , current, and resistance – and is also relevant for understanding e-bike electronics .

The formula of Ohm's law

Ohm's law states:

U = R × I

It shows that the greater the resistance, the lower the current flow – at a constant voltage.

Application for e-bikes

In e-bikes, Ohm's law is used wherever electricity flows:

  • in the engine

  • in the controller

  • in cables and connectors

  • in the battery

Example: If the resistance increases due to poor contacts or damaged cables, the current decreases – the motor loses power.

Why resistance is important

Excessive electrical resistance can:

  • energy losses cause

  • Increase heat generation

  • reduce the efficiency of the drive system

Therefore, high-quality connectors, clean contacts and suitable cable cross-sections are particularly important for e-bikes.
