Germany's oldest one-day race once again attracted numerous top teams from the international cycling scene to North Rhine-Westphalia this year. At the heart of the top-class field was MYVELO – and once again with an exclamation mark.

This time, it was Jan Sommer from Andwil (SG) who drew attention with a strong performance at the prestigious classic Rund um Köln . After an intense race, the Swiss rider fought his way to 21st place, earning valuable UCI World Ranking points – another milestone for the young German-Swiss team from the Ortenau region. ⚡️

MYVELO rides on par with the WorldTour 🌍

From the very beginning, MYVELO demonstrated a cohesive team performance. Jakob Schmidt from Erfurt significantly shaped the race as part of a seven-man breakaway. The roughly 100-kilometer breakaway posed a challenge to the opposition – only when the WorldTour teams increased the pace did the field break apart.

With about 30 kilometers to go, the leading group was caught – including Jan Sommer, who held his own in a leading group of about 35 riders. The finale was characterized by attacks from renowned riders such as Nils Politt (UAE) and Ole Theiler (Rembe-Radnet), but the decisive attacks were neutralized.

Sprint at world-class level 🏁

In the final bunch sprint, 19-year-old Briton Matthew Brennan (Visma) prevailed, ahead of none other than three-time Tour de France stage winner Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty). Jan Sommer crossed the finish line at the same time as the winner and, despite a collision in the final corner, sprinted to 21st place – a result that secured him the first UCI points of his career.

After Nils Brun, who already scored points at the race in Märwil, Sommer is the second rider in the history of MYVELO to collect world ranking points – further proof of the team's rapid development.

Next stop: Upper Austria tour

After the successful performance at the Vuelta a Asturias and the success in Cologne, the focus is on the future: From May 29 to June 1, the Oberösterreich Rundfahrt (Tour of Upper Austria) is scheduled for the second most important stage race in Austria. MYVELO aims to attack there again and make headlines.

Respectable success for MYVELO at the Upper Austria Tour 💥
