The German-Swiss team MYVELO got off to a promising start in the four-day Tour of Upper Austria. Bernese rider Nils Brun made a strong statement right from the prologue: fourth place and — as the crowning glory — the first mountain jersey in the team's history. A historic moment for the young team from the Ortenau region, which is headquartered in Oberkirch and has continued to develop in the current season.
The second stage also began promisingly. Brun, supported by a solid team effort from his teammates, climbed into the virtual yellow jersey of the overall leader. Shortly before the finish, however, this success was abruptly halted by a crash and a mechanical failure on his bike. In addition, the jury imposed a time penalty for drafting while re-leading the field – a practice often tolerated in cycling, but severely punished in this case. This dashed all his ambitions of a top finish in the overall standings.
Despite these setbacks, the team showed character: Jan Sommer from Andwil (SG) was the best MYVELO rider in the second stage, finishing 17th.
In the following two stages, Nils Brun found his form again. He underscored his consistency with 16th and 22nd place finishes, ultimately finishing 22nd overall—a respectable performance after the previous day's misfortune.
In addition to Brun and Sommer, Andrin Züger (GR), Timon Loderer (Kiefersfelden), Jakob Schmidt (Erfurt) and Luca Jenni (AG) are also at the start for MYVELO and ensured an overall solid team result in a strong international field of starters.
After this respectable success, the team is already looking ahead: The next big event for the MYVELO team is the UCI 1.2 classic Paris–Troyes on Whit Monday. There, the team will build on its previous performances.
